Section 11.12 Inductors

Definition 11.12.1. Inductor.

An inductor is a wire coil 1  used as a circuit element. The voltage across an inductor is given by
\begin{equation*} V_{inductor} = -L \frac{dI}{dt}\text{.} \end{equation*}
Here, \(L\) is the inductance and it is measured in Henries (H). Inductors can also store energy given by \(U_L = \frac{1}{2} L I^2\text{.}\)
